The 200 year old Ayre hotel is situated overlooking Kirkwall harbour, where the fishing fleet come and go and the ferries to the North Isles dock. Kirkwall is Orkney's principal town and the central point for exploring the entire county. Whether you want to look around the mainland - from Skara Brae in the north to Burwick in the south, or hop on a ferry and visit the isles, you are never more than twenty miles from the hotel. Orkney is steeped in history, going as far back as Neolithic times, so you will never tire of things to see and do, whether you come in summer time and enjoy the long hours of daylight, or if you come in winter for that break away from all the hassles of modern-day living. All 34 rooms have en-suite facilities, colour television and coffee-making tray. There are limited rooms which are more suitable for the disabled; with wheel-chair accessible toilets on the ground floor near the restaurant and public bar.
